8 Dating Deal Breakers You Shouldn’t Have

When it comes to dating, I personally think it’s good for everyone to have a few deal breakers. You need to know what you want and don’t want, and deal breakers are a part of what you don’t want in a relationship. There’s nothing wrong with calling things off because a guy or girl doesn’t meet a few expectations that are really important to you.

However, there is something wrong with calling things off with someone because they did one thing wrong – or, worse, because they don’t live up to an unrealistic expectation that you may have. Don’t let that happen to you… avoid these 8 dating deal breakers:

A Height Difference

I hear a lot of girls say things like, “I would never date a guy who’s shorter than me.” That’s just silly, not to mention mean. No one can control their height and their height also doesn’t determine what kind of person they are. Don’t count someone out just because he may be shorter than you – that’s so shallow and unfair.

If They Mess Up One Time

Look, no one is perfect. People are going to mess up once in a while. The person you’re dating or want to date might do the wrong thing once, whether it’s something little like bailing on a date at the last minute or something bigger like not being there for you when you needed them. If they do this sort of thing a lot, that’s a deal breaker. But if it happens once and that person is sincerely apologetic, and you think you can move past it, let it go. Forgiveness is a good thing sometimes.

If They Don’t Do Great In School

A lot of times, you’ll hear a description for a perfect guy or girl, and that description usually involves someone who’s smart. And, yeah, you should want to date someone who’s intelligent – but I’ve found that intelligence isn’t always best measured by school work. Just because someone doesn’t get straight A’s doesn’t mean they’re not worth dating.

If They Don’t Get Along With All Of Your Friends

It’s a huge perk when your boyfriend gets along really well with your friends, but it’s not necessary. As long as they don’t totally hate each other because he’s a jerk, it’s fine. What really matters is how you feel about him/her.

If They Lie Once

A guy/girl who lies to you all the time is a loser. A guy/girl who lies to you once and then feels badly about it? Different story. We all lie once in a while. If you catch him/her in a small lie and s/he feels bad and promises not to do it anymore, consider giving him/her another chance.

A Long Distance Between You Two

I know a lot of people don’t believe in long-distance relationships, but I also know a lot of people who make them work. One of my cousins is in one and has been for a few years and she has an amazing relationship with her boyfriend. Don’t take a long distance to automatically mean things are over between you two. If you really care about each other, it may be worth it to give it a chance.

If Someone Doesn’t Look Exactly The Way You Want Them To

I know, I know… Kiss Daniel is really hot and you want your boyfriend to look just like him. Or whatever celebrity you’re into. But chances are, your potential partner isn’t going to look like that. Accept it. Deal with it. Flaws are human and they’re usually special.

If Your Relationship Isn’t ‘Perfect’

A perfect relationship doesn’t exist. It just doesn’t. Stop looking for it. It will never happen.
