Top New Year Resolutions every Secondary School Student must imbibe

As we all know, 2017 began barely two weeks ago. So we are still very much gripped by the New Year euphoria. And the good thing about every New Year is that it is a good time to reflect on the choices we’ve made in the past, make corrections to them and then fashion out a way forward. For you students who are looking for ways to improve their academic performance, I hereby present to you some of the things you may want to consider doing. Read below…

SAY NO TO PROCRASTINATION: How often have you underestimated how much time it will take to get something done? Then, how sad are you when you don’t have the time to do your best. At some point, the procrastinator has to write four college essays in one night – on top of completing schoolwork. Usually, this doesn’t turn out so well. If you finish a project earlier than you thought you would, then consider yourself ahead.

AIM FOR GOOD GRADES: Making good grades in Secondary School is necessary for so many reasons, especially if you are hoping to further your education. And considering how a lot of emphasis is placed on certificates in Nigeria, you can’t but ensure that you make the best grades. This is why it is important for you to gear your efforts towards ensuring that you pass your exams in flying colours, especially so if you are writing any major exams such as JAMB, WAEC or NECO.

DON’T GIVE YOURSELF TOO MANY TARGETS: Please do not set yourself up for failure by cutting out more than you can chew. It’s better to concentrate on a few things and excel in them than over-tasking yourself for the sake of being busy. Therefore, plan responsibly, set achievable and realistic targets and get them actualized.

KEEP A CALENDAR/TIMETABLE:  Deadlines can creep up on you so suddenly especially so if you don’t learn to keep tabs on them. You should bear in mind that nobody does well under pressure; therefore do not let yourself be stressed just because of your inability to stick to your deadlines. Now one of the most assured ways to stick to time and meet your deadlines is to mark your tasks on your calendar and work according to your timetable. These days, your To-do lists can conveniently be made on your phone. Keep tab!

Other ways to help your academic ministry as a student in 2017 is to-

Study regularly and take standardized (revision) tests on your own.

Expose yourself to every available learning platforms/materials available to you.

Try something new

Be excited about learning new things on a daily basis.

Do what your school teachers and counselors tell you to do about your academics.

Befriend those who will help you grow and be better.

Work hard and believe in yourself.
