What makes the weekend even more fantastic if not games! Do you have a smartphone or tablet, or have access to one? Let’s have some fun with these games, and if you have begun playing them already, get over here so we can discuss the points, and what makes these games really cool and fun. Check out the top 10.
1. Zombie Highway 2 – Android/iOS
It’s becoming increasingly clear that killing zombies in ever inventive ways, in ever more elaborate situations, will never get boring. Zombie Highway 2, in essence, is a self-driving car that is attacked by zombies that jump on to the side. Your job is to keep them off by swerving left and right and scraping up against walls and other cars. It’s fun and add-ons like nitro and weapons make it more fun
2. Duck Tales Remastered – Android / iOS
The lovable Scrooge McDuck returns to our screens in mobile form in this remade version of the 1990’s classic Duck Tales. On-screen controls for this type of game always present an issue, but the simplicity of movement takes away any frustration.
3. Tales From The Borderlands – Android / iOS
Based in the Borderlands universe, players take control of characters Rhys and Fiona as they attempt to take on the evil Hyperion corporation on a desolate planet. Expect plenty of action, twists, and engaging story and choices that affect the direction of the game.
4. Dungeon Hunter 5 – Android / iOS
Fantasy RPG Dungeon Hunter 5 brings some impressive intense ‘hack and slash’ action (as the developers describe it) to mobile. There’s plenty of loot to collect, creatures to dismember, and over-sized weapons to wield in this fast-paced action game to keep anyone busy.
5. Does Not Commute – Android/ iOS
Does Not Commute is a strangely addictive cross between Vantage Point and MicroMachines. Players direct individual cars to their destination – only using left and right – and pick-up time along the way to continue the game. For every car successfully directed, the game restarts from the perspective of another commuter who will have to avoid crashing into the previous character’s car.
6. Motion Tennis Cast – Android
Motion Tennis cast is Android’s Wii Tennis. Using the Chromecast, players connect their Android device to their TV, run the game, and play tennis, with your smartphone recording your bat swings. It’s a bit cumbersome and not the best looking, but it works and it’s innovative. Plus there’s a nice multi-player option to play with distant friends.
7. Plunder Pirates – Android/iOS
Plunder Pirates is a colourful and fast-paced real-time strategy that mixes Simcity with a bit of Red Alert. Players build an island and put together a pirate crew to loot other players islands. There’s plenty of action, fun and glitz here, as you would expect from the makers of Angry Birds.
8. Halo Spartan Bundle – iOS
The Halo Spartan Bundle comes with both Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike. Both are great looking top-down shooters based on the Halo series that offer little more than some manic running and gunning. That’s not to say it’s not entertaining, it absolutely is. Weapon upgrades, power upgrades, kill streaks and projectiles make both perfect pick-up and play mobile games.
9. Letter Pad – iOS
Letterpad is a puzzle game that requires players to figure out the mystery word with the allocated letters. It quickly goes from casual fun to excruciatingly difficult before you’ve finished spelling syrup. There’s also a smart hint system that trades tips for playing a 15 second advert. Fun, simple, addictive and it works on the Apple watch.
10. Lost Within – iOS
Certifiably terrifying. This first person survival horror combines all of the horror-genre staples; creaks, whines, childrens voices, and murky dark corridors. Which all fits neatly into a genuinely enthralling iOS game. You’ll spend a lot of time treading carefully, looking around and running and hiding from the….‘inhabitants’.
