10 Amazing Bird Facts (The Anambra Waxbill)

1. The Anambra waxbill is a small bird of many beautiful colours.
2. They are found only in Southern Nigeria and nowhere else on earth.
3. They live in small flocks of about 20 birds.
4. It feeds on the seeds of grasses.
5. They are  dun-coloured finch with reddish brown bill and rump.
6. It has a typical call that souns like tzzzt
7. It is usually found in long grass along rivers, lagoon sandbanks, marshes, swamps and forest.
8. Their exact population is not known (an estimate of 700 mature birds) but they are vulnerable to extinction.
9. Unlike other waxbill around the world, the Anambra waxbill has pale eyes.
10. At closer range shows very fine barring on upperparts, sides of breast.
