5 Mistakes Every UTME Candidate Must Avoid

Preparing for an exam such as the UTME necessitates a great deal of attention to detail, beginning with the day you express interest in obtaining the form, continuing through the registration point, preparation for the exam, and ending with the examination day.

UTME candidates must pay close attention to details to avoid costly mistakes.

Every year, a large number of UTME candidates make costly mistakes. In many cases, they will lose their admission or will be unable to take the exam.

In this article, I will show you five mistakes that every UTME candidate should avoid.

-Error in Biodata information
-Wrong subject combination
-Error in school choice
-Not studying with the right material
-Timing in the examination hall

Now, let us run through them one after the other.

-Error In Biodata Information

Your biodata information is expected to be accurate for any registration because whatever details you submit are what will be processed. The case is not different in UTME registration.

Avoid making mistakes in your biodata information that can cost you, for example, A candidate that fills in the wrong date of birth,This error may cause such a candidate to be disqualified for admission due to incorrect information.

-Wrong Subject Combination

Before registering for UTME, make sure you have done your research on the best subject combination for your desired course.

Wrong subject combination can make you ineligible for that course. In some cases, you might not be eligible for admission or you will be admitted into another course you did not fill during your registration.

How do you know your subject combination?

You can check it on JAMB website
https://www.jamb.gov.ng/

And also check your desired institution’s website for details about the course.

-Error In School Choice

I often tell students to take their time when choosing a school because it is very important. First, do your research about your course and the school you want to attend, and then check to see if the school is accredited by the  National Universities Commission( NUC) to take that course.

Mistakes in school selection can cost you a lot of money and time. For example, if you choose the wrong school and then discover you can’t go because the school isn’t accredited, your money and time will be wasted, and you’ll have to change school or wait till the next year.

-Not Studying With The Right Material

Every UTME candidate must avoid this blunder; studying with the proper materials is critical.

Check the JAMB website for your subject combination syllabus and use JAMB Past questions to ensure you are studying with the correct material.

-Timing In The Examination Hall

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a computer-based examination conducted by JAMB for prospective undergraduates in Nigeria.

The exam is conducted to examine students’ knowledge of specific subjects.

Since the exam is computer-based, each candidate is given two hours to answer 180 questions. 60 questions for use of English and the remaining subject combination 40 questions each.

If you don’t keep track of your time, you might find yourself struggling in the exam.

How can you manage your time well?

Don’t persist too long on a question. If you don’t know the answer, skip to the next question and make sure you answer the question you skipped.

Sit properly, so you don’t unintentionally unplug your computer to avoid wasting time.

Make sure you don’t get distracted.

When UTME approaches, many students become nervous. You do not need to be nervous instead, make sure you have studied thoroughly.

Get to the exam room and do your best.
