8 Absolutely Fun and Interesting Places to Visit in Abuja

Do you live in Abuja? Perhaps you plan to visit during the holidays. Here’s a guide to some of the “happening” places in the city, where you are sure to have some fun, and get “the party” going. 

1. Millennium Park

The Millennium Park is the largest public park in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. It is located in the Maitama district of the city. The park, which is the largest in Abuja features a pool, beautifully structured walk way and play things for kids. Millennium park is also suitable for picnics with friends.

2. Silverbird Cinemas

It is located in in Central Business District. The Silverbird Entertainment Centre has a cinema, restaurants, games arcade, and a host of shops where you can get things for yourself. It also houses Shoprite.

3. Gurara Falls

It is located in Niger state, which is just about a 30 minute drive from Abuja. Gurara Falls is an amazing place to visit, complete with an evergreen scenery, rock formations, ponds and water which you can swim in, Gurara Falls is certainly a place to visit whenever you are in Abuja.

4. Wonderland Amusement Park

This place is suitable for leisure and recreational activities with games and rides mostly for kids. Another good thing about this place is the fact that you can stop over at the National Stadium which is on the same drive.

5. National Children’s Park and Zoo

With a few animals and a huge playground, the National Children’s Park and Zoo in Asokoro is certainly the place to be .

6. Aso Rock

It overlooks the official residence of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which derives its name – Aso Villa – from it. The rock is about the highest point in Abuja, measuring about 936 meters above sea level.

7. Jabi Lake

Jabi Lake provides a good view of the city. During holiday periods, a lot of activities, from dance competitions to boat rides take place there. It is also a good place to have a picnic with friends.

8. Pedam Lake

Compared to others, this is not a very popular place in Abuja. Pedam Lake is a good tourist site as it lies behind the presidential villa, sprawling towards Nassarawa. Accessibility to this park is through the National Children’s Park and Zoo.

With these eight to start with, your stay in Abuja need not be boring!
