20 Signs You’re Actually An Introvert, Not Shy

Being an introvert and being shy are two different things that often get confused as the same thing because they’re similar in some ways. While being shy is about being scared to talk to people or being nervous to be in social situations, being an introvert is more about simply not feeling a need to talk to others or be in very social situations. See the difference? It’s not that introverts are scared to be outgoing, just it’s that they don’t want to be.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an introvert. It’s just a personality type that you can’t undo. In fact, you should be proud to be an introvert. Here are 20 signs you’re an introvert:

1. Being in a crowd of people stresses you out, whether you’re at a “fun” party or a school event, or even a loud viewing centre. Being around too many people is literally exhausting for introverts.

2. When you’ve been around a lot of people for a few hours, you feel like you need to go home and recharge your batteries. You like going out for a little bit, but you can’t do it for too long. After a while, you need to be on your own!

3. Small talk makes you feel sort of anxious. If there’s one thing introverts can’t stand, it’s small talk. They find it annoying.

4. You rarely go out of your way to meet new people. If you do meet them, that’s cool. But you’re not going to seek out new friends everywhere you go. You prefer to just be around the people you already know.

5. People have claimed you’re too intense because they don’t understand you. Introverts are very into deep-thinking and over-analysing. For people who don’t think as deeply into things (like extroverts), this can be very intense.

6. Doing nothing doesn’t seem boring at all to you. In fact, it seems perfect. Introverts need time to do nothing on a regular basis because it re-energises them.

7. You hate being surrounded by people on all sides. So, when you sit somewhere in a public space, you’d rather be on the end or by the window instead of in the middle.

8. Most of your friends and dating partners are extroverts. It’s true that opposites attract. Introverts are very often attracted to extroverts because being around them let them try out that personality, while still being able to go back to being an introvert.

9. You’re super observant and notice things other people don’t.  Introverts tend to notice every little detail.

10. You regularly get into trouble for not participating enough in class or at work. It’s not that you don’t know the answer, it’s just that you feel no need to be in the spotlight that way.

11. If you don’t have a plan, you feel totally freaked out. Introverts feel like they need to have a plan rather than be spontaneous.

12. You’re almost never indecisive, because you always know what you want. One of the best things about being an introvert is that you always know what you want and don’t want.

13. You rarely initiate phone calls or text messages. You usually just let people come to you, and answer when you’re ready.

14. Sometimes people assume you’re being rude when you genuinely aren’t trying to be. It’s either because you have an intense look on your face or because you simply just don’t feel like talking. But you’re never trying to be mean.

15. You have a few very close friends, but not too many casual acquaintances. It takes a lot for an introvert to trust someone, so they choose to only have a few close friends rather than a bunch of random friends.

16. You don’t like being around people who are angry or upset. Studies have shown that introverts don’t like looking at people who seem like they’re in a bad mood.

17. You absolutely hate being put on the spot, and need time to think before you give an answer to something. You need time to really focus on something on your own before you can work out a problem.

18. You’re constantly getting lost in thought, and you have a very active imagination. Introverts are deep thinkers and almost always have an inner monologue running through their minds.

19. You’ve very cautious about who you open up to and trust. You don’t take friendship lightly, and once you choose someone to be close to, that’s a big deal. You don’t just let anyone in!

20. You know how to be your own friend. Introverts love spending time with themselves. We know how to keep ourselves entertained even when no one else is around.

Can you relate to this? Are you an introvert or an extrovert? What did I forget to include? Tell me in the comments.
