10 Things Only Secondary School Students Can Relate With

Being in secondary school can be so complicated and confusing, especially for junior students. Here are 10 things only secondary school students can relate with.

1. Teachers can be your friends.
Sometimes teachers can be powerful allies! Some of them are really nice and fun, and they’re easy to talk to during free periods or during lunch. Become friendly with the nice teachers – they’ll help make your day better and your high school career easier.

2. People can be really mean, and sometimes there’s no reason for it.
A lot of people will tell you that secondary school is nothing like Mean Girls. This is very true, but that doesn’t mean bullies don’t exist. They do. Some high school students, especially the seniors, are really mean for absolutely no reason. For the rest of your life, you will meet people who are horrible for no reason. It’s just something you have to learn to deal with.

3. You’ll do things you didn’t think you would do, and sometimes you might disappoint yourself
This is part of life.

4. Your teachers are not always right!
It’s normal to assume teachers are always right because they’re figures of authority. But they’re not! Some teachers suck as people and educators. Sometimes you’ll get a teacher who does more harm than good. Other times they’ll make a simple mistake on a grade that you can fight. Just don’t get tricked into thinking they know everything.

5. Your parents will probably become a lot more annoying, but they’re just scared.
Most people deal with more strict rules when they are in secondary school. That’s because your parents are freaking out that you’re getting older and they want to protect you. It sucks, but try to remember that they’re coming from a good place.

6. Peer pressure is real, but it’s probably not as bad as people make it seem.
Some people make it seem like you walk inside a high school hallway and get pressured to do every bad thing on the planet. Some people do use peer pressure, and those people suck, but most people don’t.

7. Get a tutor in your worst subject to make your life easier.
I know you don’t want to get a tutor because that means more time spent doing schoolwork. But you should, because it will really help.

8. Almost everyone is talking about sex all the time; few people are actually doing it.
Don’t stress about being a virgin – Seriously. And don’t be tricked into believing you’re the only one who’s not having sex.

9. Keep your good friends close. You’ll need them.
It doesn’t matter if your “good friends” consist of only one friend. Keep the good people by your side.

10. Your grades are very important, but shouldn’t be your only experience.
Being in secondary school is about more than just getting straight A’s. You should work hard, but you should also socialise and have ‘fun’ while you’re in high school.

Which of these things do you agree with? What do you disagree with? What did I forget? Tell me in the comments.
