How This Teen’s Homemade Clock Drew Everyone’s Attention

14 year old Ahmed Mohamed was arrested after he’d made a clock at home and took it to his school – MacArthur High School, Irving, to show his engineering teacher who congratulated him. The homemade clock consisted of a circuit board with wires leading to a digital display. However, another teacher who heard it beeping sound during class, saw it and believed it looked like a bomb, alerted school authorities who called the police. He was  later led out in handcuffs and put into juvenile detention. Ahmed was released to meet his parents after he was fingerprinted.

Little did he know that his arrest was a blessing in disguise, until President Obama issued a White House invitation to Ahmed Mohamed. President Obama tweeted yesterday asking Ahmed to bring his clock to the White House

“Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great”

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg also sent an invitation to US teen commending him and inviting him to Facebook headquarters.

Mark Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook page, “You’ve probably seen the story about Ahmed, the 14 year old student in Texas who built a clock and was arrested when he took it to school. Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed. Ahmed, if you ever want to come by Facebook, I’d love to meet you. Keep building”
