Meaning of Inter-communal Relationship

Inter communal relationship is a relationship which exist between two or more communities.

One of the major objectives of the Government is to ensure that the Government is close to the members of the community and provide a forum where local people can defend themselves and also develop their local communities. Therefore, a good citizen must respect and contribute to the peaceful development of the society.

A good inter-communal will work to promote peace and harmony among the communities and bring people of the various communities together.

Importance of Inter-communal relationship

Inter-communal relationship is important for the following reasons:

  • Promotion of political development: A good and positive inter-communal relationship helps to promote political development of different kinds and ensures that concerned communities participate in issues related to the development of the community.
  • Promotion of peace and unity: A positive inter-communal relationship will help to promote peace and unity in the environment. It will help to unite community members towards the development of the community.
  • Enhancement of Security: It ensures stable and standby security consciousness in the communities. It will help to remove the fear of violence, war or any kind of between communities.
  • Promotion of inter-communal/tribal marriage: When there is a good relationship between different communities, it becomes easy for communal/tribal marriage to take place. Positive inter-communal relationship will enhance willingness for the communities to give out their sons and daughters t others from another tribe.
  • Promotion of Economic progress: A responsible and positive inter-communal relationship will enhance peaceful atmosphere and strategies for each other or each other business like inter-marketing strategies etc.

Inter-communal conflicts

Inter-communal conflict is the term used to describe conflict that occurs between competing groups within a state. It may arise over disputes concerning access to scarce resources or political power. Such conflicts may lead to violent warfare between the two or more defined communities that are involved.

Skills needed for resolving Inter-communal conflicts

  1. Mediation: This is a situation where the Government set up a special panel to mediate communities involved in the conflicts.
  2. Dialogue: This is a situation where the opposing communities map out a means by which the conflicts can be resolved amicably.
  3. Peace keeping force: Special peace keeping force like army, air force, navy, police etc, they are set up by the government restore peaceful situation in the communities.
  4. Community Leaders: Communal conflicts can be resolved by the leaders of the various communities like obas,Obis, emirs etc.
  5. The Law court: Communal conflicts can also be resolved at the law court if it can’t be done by community leaders.
