Meaning of School

A school is a place where learning takes place. It an institution where instruction is given, especially to person under college age. It is an institution for instruction in a particular skill or field.

A school is an organized structure made available for imparting and educating  people

Community is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.

 School Community

It refers to the various individuals, groups, businesses, and institutions that are invested in the welfare and vitality of a public school and its community—i.e., the neighborhoods and everyone around the school environment.

Members of the school communities

  • The school administrators
  • The teachers
  • The other staff members; the cleaners, gate men etc.
  • The students
  • The parents
  • The local residents
  • The school board members

Functions of the school to the community

  • Provision of employment
  • Educating the students in the community
  • Ensuring law and orderliness in the community and environment
  • Contributing to the development of the community
  • Improving the culture of a school
  • Strengthen relationships between students and teachers
  • The school should foster feelings of inclusion, caring, shared purpose and collective investment

Duties of the school community members

Duties of the school community member are

School administrator

  • Enforce discipline and attendance rules.
  • Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning problems.
  • Observe teaching methods and examine learning materials to evaluate and standardize curricula and teaching techniques
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards, develop mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate primary and other staffs.

Teachers

Teachers have so many duties to perform, some of them are

  • Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills as they relate to interaction with students, parents, other teachers, administrators, and other school personnel
  • The teacher imparts knowledge to the Students
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and students records
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents
  • Complies with state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies
  • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline

The Parents

  • The parents are responsible for providing the students with text book and other materials to facilitate learning
  • Assist the students in their take home assignment
  • Ensures the students wake up early to go to school
  • The parents imbibe good morals in their children
