The life of an average teenager is really not as simple as it seems. Agreed, he or she may not be concerned with the worries of earning salaries and being actively responsible for the daily running of a home. Yet, the average teenager faces a whole lot of other challenges especially as it relates to school. In this post, I shall be examining some of the things our young people fear most about school and some of the ways they could overcome such fears. Please read below.
Teenagers dread being late to school. This fact will ring particularly true to teenagers in most Nigerian public secondary schools where the prefects are constantly looking for excuses to punish students. Under such circumstances therefore, coming late to school is tantamount to exposing oneself to different types of mistreatment. But then sometimes, being late is inevitable especially in big cities like Lagos where the traffic could be unpredictable. Therefore, because of this possibility of lateness to school, teenagers fear schools. Now just in case you find yourself under this category, what you need to do is to figure out the best way to prepare for school early and beat the traffic.
Some teenagers dread school when they do not have any friends at school. Just imagine being all by yourself in school, no close friends and all the other kids constantly making jest of you. Now such picture as I have just painted above may seem very far-fetched. But the truth is that there are so many students who are lonely in schools with no true friends. These students are bullied on a daily basis and the experience can be horrible. But this is not an impossible problem to solve. Students who are friendless at school should try reaching out to the other students. There is never any harm in being friendly to others yourself!
Another major reason why teenagers dread school is tough classes. Most teenagers who are not good in certain subjects worry over the possibility of being embarrassed in class by the teachers teaching said subjects, especially when the students fail to keep up with the rest of the class. This fear often keeps students from actively participating in class which over all affects their academic performance[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][s] negatively. It is normal occurrence for students to find certain subjects difficult to comprehend. And one of the best ways to cope with the problem is usually to seek help towards remedying the problem. Therefore, ask your friends who are good in such difficult subjects to teach you things you do not know. You can also discuss with your parents about the home tutorials.
In conclusion, there is no justifiable reason why any teenager should perpetually dread school. If for any of the above reasons you find yourself dreading school, what you need to as quickly as to provide solution to your source of fear.
