Registration for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination [UTME] will finally commence on March 20th and end on April 19th; lasting precisely for a month. JAMB’s registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this yesterday March 13th during a press conference which was also attended by major stakeholders in the examination process; including CBT Centre owners.
Reacting to newsmen on the one month be used for registration, Professor Oloyede stated that the change was necessary as it would help eliminate all the ills hitherto association with prolonged registration. He also emphasized the JAMB will not be extending the registration period even as any candidate who fail to register before the 19th of April 2017 would have to wait until 2018.
Speaking further, the registrar of board disclosed that more than six hundred centres have been approved for the conduct of this year’s UTME nationwide. They will be used for the computer based tests. He also disclosed that there will be mock examination before the actual exam, a process he noted is intended to allow candidates familiarize themselves with the CBT method which was introduced in 2013 and was partly blamed for the mass failure experienced ever since.
Below are some of the things Professor Oloyede disclosed-
“There will also be mock examination for prospective candidates, and this examination will be purely optional. Those who register for the mock examination will sit for it on April 8, but the UTME proper will commence on May 6 to May 20. We have put in place facilities that will make it easy for candidates to register. For instance, as soon as a candidate creates his profile on his mobile phone, automatically, we will send our e-syllabus and e-brochure into his e-mail. So, even before going to pay for the mock, he already has all the materials that he will need for the registration. We are also talking to CBT centre operators not to extort candidates just as we are also asking candidates not to pay now for the mock examination which is purely optional,’’
Please note that the mock examination is free. However, interested candidates will be required to pay the CBT operators the sum of N700 only.
