According to statistics, these are the ten best dribblers in the Premier League right now. The first figure is the number of successful dribbles per game and the number in brackets is the total number of successful dribbles this season so far.
Enjoy.
10. Ravel Morrison – 2.1 per game (33)
Bad boy Ravel Morrison has come out of his shell in more ways than one for West Ham this season. The midfielder seems to be a slightly argumentative figure and he is known to have had the odd row with team-mates, but that won’t bother fans if he carries on his impressive form. He’s a confident young man and it’s translated onto the football field, with dribbling being a key attribute of his game.
9. Mohammed Diame – 2.1 per game (44)
Another West Ham midfielder comes next in the form of France’s Mohammed Diame. Perhaps this is part of Sam Allardyce’s tactics, but the Hammers midfield aren’t shy of getting their heads down and attacking an opponent’s back four. Diame is what people might describe as a ‘modern defensive midfielder’ as he is powerful and creative on the ball as well as being able to fulfil his defensive responsibilities off it.
8. Raheem Sterling – 2.2 per game (38)
Raheem Sterling is a zippy winger who always looks to attack full-backs. At only 19, he is not yet in his prime and we can expect to see him terrorise many more defenders in the years to come. As he matures, he will be even harder to knock off the ball.
7. Adel Tarrabt – 2.3 per game (27)
The star of QPR last season is now plying his trade at Craven Cottage and the Moroccan is starting to make his mark. Not only does he possess an eye for goal, but he can create his own chances thanks to his pace, power and excellent technique.
6. Moussa Dembele – 2.5 per game (50)
While many brand Tottenham as a club in crises, they still somehow sit level for fourth in the Premier League and they have players such as Moussa Dembele to thank. The 26-year-old was a key player for Fulham before he moved to Spurs and the 6’1” Belgium international is still finding his feet at White Hart Lane. Dembele is often seen marauding through midfield, brushing off opponents with his big frame and he is a huge asset for his team going forward.
5. Ross Barkley – 2.8 per game (53)
Unfortunately, Ross Barkley has picked up an injury which will keep him out of action for some months, but the Everton midfielder was in emphatic form before he picked up the knock. The Everton star was in such good form that he picked up two England caps and Roy Hodgson would have been banking on the 20-year-old’s penetrating runs when he put Barkley’s name on the team sheet.
4. Hatem Ben Arfa – 2.8 per game (51)
Newcastle must be counting their lucky stars they managed to hold onto Hatem Ben Arfa as he was attracting interest from a host of big clubs over the summer, most notably Arsenal. It’s paying dividends as the French midfielder has put in some good performances for his club, scoring three goals in nine games and assisting twice. Everyone remembers the mazy run which led to his infamous goal against Bolton and he is showing this season that it was no fluke.
3. Luis Suarez – 3 per game (51)
Luis Suarez is undoubtedly the best player in the Premier League this season and he tops most stats columns when it comes to going forward. With 22 goals in 17, as well as five assists, the Uruguayan is blowing the league apart. Once he gets going on a run it’s almost impossible to stop him.
2. Eden Hazard – 3.5 per game (78)
Eden Hazard is finally starting to show the Premier League what he can do following his highly anticipated move to Chelsea from Lille in 2012. The 23-year-old midfielder is the spark in Chelsea’s midfield and is waltzing past defenders with ease at the moment. With a host of other talented number tens in the ranks at Stamford Bridge, it could become a midfield which tears apart the Premier League.
1. Andros Townsend – 4.1 per game (57)
Townsend is your typical footballing journeyman, having been on more loans than you’ve had hot dinners, but the Tottenham winger has had a breakthrough season for Spurs which has cemented his place in the team. His fantastic form gained him a call-up to the England team and he was a shining light in a series of mundane England games. He has blistering pace and gets behind defenders at every opportunity.
