Growing up I never had the privilege most young people have now. I mean, today, there’s Android devices and BB everywhere! Back in the day, the Cybercafe was the spot for connecting to the Internet. Information was not as available as it is today. Someone said this statement and I think it is highly instructive: “Respect your parents, they went to school without Google or the Internet and they still made it”.
With that let me share some information that will radically alter your life. I know it will since it has helped me to become who I am today. Basically, it is 5 totally awesome keys that will guarantee your personal success in life. Let us begin with the first one. Here goes:
Law 1 – The Law of Association – The law of association is a timeless law that guarantees success in life. The law simply states that everyday you are becoming like your closest relationships. Have you noticed that musicians hang out with musicians, especially more successful ones? Have you noticed that academic scholars (that is, the “efikos”) hang out together? It is a very powerful success law. At some point in my life I had to critically look at my friends, contacts, and networks, and I asked myself, “Will these set of relationships take me to a wonderful and glorious future”? The answer was NO. I had to change my friends by letting them go, stop going to the places we normally hangout and many other wonderful things. Listen, Friendship is not by force, it is by choice. Eagles hang out with eagles, and turkeys with turkeys. I chose many years ago to be an eagle and not a turkey. Turkeys get eaten for lunch, eagles choose how to live and are the dominant species. There is a popular saying that goes “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”. I adjusted it to go thus, “Show me your friends and I will tell you where you will end up in life”. Many young people today have very wrong types of friends. This is not good. Many people have gotten involved in things they are not proud of because of the type of friends they had. You must choose your friends and not the other way around. Be in charge!
Association is very important. Interestingly, Social media has taken the law of association to great heights! At the click of a button on either of Twitter or Facebook, you can enter into the company of many great minds! Twitter is even more interesting! You can get great people both in Nigeria and abroad to retweet your tweets. That way, your relationships are getting better and you are becoming one that soon, people will want to associate with you for your great deeds.
Wow, a lot has been said! My assignment for you NOW and always is this:
- Who in my circle of friends must I stop associating with? See, you have just one life to live. You might as well live it well. Be the eagle, not the turkey!
- What actions will I take to ensure that such friends are out of my view? Will you unfriend them on Facebook? Will you delete them from your BB? Will you stop following them on Twitter? Will you stop going out to those places they say you should go to?
- Which new set of persons will I begin to associate with so I can become a person of influence in a few years time?
The power to succeed is in your hands! In my next post, we shall look at the second law. It is even as exciting as this one! Remember this, YOU ARE A SUCCESS!
