Ryan Giggs: New Man Utd interim boss is ‘proud, a bit nervous’… but can’t wait for 5:30 on Saturday

Ryan Giggs has described his appointment as Manchester United manager as the proudest day of his career.

After thanking Moyes for giving him his first chance in coaching last summer, Giggs told a press conference this morning that he would bring back United’s traditions of attacking football.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s home game against Norwich in the Barclays Premier League, Giggs said: ‘This is the proudest moment of my career and I will enjoy the next two and a half weeks of the season.

‘I will bring back smiles on people’s faces and I can’t wait for the game to come.

However, the 40-year-old has told his players they have to remind the country how United can play.

‘The team will play with my philosophy and that is the Manchester United philosophy,’ he added.

‘I have been here all my life.

‘I want them to play with speed, tempo, be brave, show imagination. They are all the things I expect from a Manchester United player.

‘I want to bring the positivity back and I want to see my players tackling hard and taking players on.’

Giggs wouldn’t get involved with talk of the future. The Welshman is aware he won’t be given the job on a full-time basis this time around and may not even be retained as part of the coaching staff if the new full-time manager doesn’t want him.

Asked if he would play tomorrow, he laughed and said: ‘I have just awarded myself a new five-year contract.’
