The purpose of the Essay scholarship competition hosted by the United Bank for Africa (U.B.A) foundation is to promote a reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition among secondary school students in Nigeria. The registration for the eleventh edition is ongoing.
The essays are usually handwritten and submitted to the U.B.A office to be scanned and uploaded. If selected by the professors, then you can proceed to the next stage of the competition. However, the covid-19 pandemic brought disruption which brought the competition to a halt.
Last year’s essay scholarship competition had 12 finalists:

At the end of the Tenth edition program, other participants were empowered, with resources like laptops and many other resources of intrinsic value to their education.
The topic for this year’s essay scholarship competition is “WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE EDUCATION OF THE AFRICAN YOUTH?”
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Aside from being a secondary school student, other requirements include:
* submitting a handwritten essay (750 words max)
* submitting a passport photograph
* submitting a copy of your birth certificate, National ID, or passport.

This year’s essay scholarship competition will emerge with three Winners:
The first-place winner will go home with a 3 million educational grant to study in any university.
The second prize will go home with a 2.5million educational grant.
The third prize will go home with a 2million grant to study in any African university of their choice.
