Placard-carrying secondary school teachers yesterday, stormed the Government House in Bauchi State to protest against 11 months of unpaid salaries, Vanguard reports.
The teachers, who arrived the Government House around 9am refused to leave despite the scorching sun.
It was gathered that most of those being owed arrears of salaries consisted mainly of those newly recruited by the state government.
The protesters carried placards which had various inscriptions which read; “I cannot feed because I have not been paid salary; How can you work without salaries and We cannot feed our families, we are suffering.”
The protesters who lamented over their plight since their recruitment stressed that they could no longer cope with the trend and urged the government to address the situation.
Mr Tijani Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the protesters, lamented that since the state government employed them on April 16, 2014, they had not been paid.
He said: “In the spirit of leadership by example, we want Governor Isa Yuguda to intervene and address this situation because we are suffering.
“The situation is even more pathetic for those of us who were posted to remote areas in the state as they have to transport themselves to and from work.
“For 11 months now, all we have been hearing from the ministry of education and the Accountant General is that we should be patient. But we discovered that the situation has continued to deteriorate.”
