Behold Some Of The World’s Most Famous Landmarks

Our dearest planet Earth is filled with amazing landmarks most of which naturally come in nature. And now thanks to humankind’s ingenuity, we have very many more man-hand landmarks scattered across the continents. How many of these landmarks do you know? You’ve probably heard about the Great Wall of China before now. And most possibly you have seen the Hollywood sign in some Disney movie. Anyway, I’ve taken my time to compile some of the world’s most recognizable and photographed landmarks all for your pleasure. Buckinham Palace is in London, United Kingdom. It serves as the official residence and administrative headquarters of any reigning British Monarch. Buckinham Palace also hosts some of the world's eminent personalities all year round. Queen Elizabeth currently lives there.

2. THE WHITE HOUSE

The White House is in Washington DC, United States of America. It serves as the official residence and office of the US president, and is reputed as the most fortified building on earth. It has the most famous addresses in the world- 16 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. It is also one of the oldest (yet strongest) buildings in the world, constructed between 1792 and 1800. It is a sought after destination spot for tourists in the Washington DC area. Such a fine house!

3. TIME SQUARE

TIME SQUARE

Time Square is undoubtedly one of the most famous squares in the world. Located in New York City, it serves as both a commercial nerve centre and residential area for New Yorkers. It is famous for its many large screens and adverts which run at a lope. Before 1904, Time Square was called Longacre Square. And today, it is also referred to as “The Great White Way”, “The Centre of the Universe” and “The Crossroads of the World”.

4. BURJ AL ARAB HOTEL

This Hotel is a magnificent edifice constructed on an artificial island and boasts as one of the tallest buildings in the entire world. It is located in the United Arab Emirates.

5. THE FORBIDDEN CITY

The Forbidden City is a huge historical landmark for the Chinese people. It was home to several emperors and their families and was later used as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years! Construction of the Forbidden City took fourteen years from 1406 to 1420. The entire complex consists of nine hundred and eighty buildings; so it is quite a city! UNESCO declared the site a World Heritage Site in 1987. I hope you know what a World Heritage Site is…

6. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

This is one h**l of a house, guys! It is a multi-venue edifice specially constructed for the Performing Arts. A notable Australian landmark, it is described as one of the most iconic buildings of the 2oth century.  The building was opened to the public on October 20th, 1973.

7. GREAT WALL OF CHINA

8. THE COLOSSEUM

The Colosseum is in the city of Rome in Italy. It is an oval amphitheater, the largest of such structures ever built. Construction of the Colosseum was completed in 80 AD and can hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators at the same. It is one of oldest man-made structures in the world, still standing after several hundred years despite experiencing many events including a disastrous earthquake.
