Life can often be quite frustrating for the average teenager and this understandable considering that teens have a lot of things to worry about- their future, school, friendships, and of course romance. These things can cause a lot of distress to the young person who hasn’t quite learnt how to cope with the challenges of life. The unfortunate thing is that teenage angst does not only negatively impact on the lives of people around them, but can also potentially result in complicated health issues. But not to worry guys because I have taken time to research into some of the most effective ways teenagers can cope with angst. Read up and help yourself please…

TAKE A WALK: The most important thing to do for yourself when you are down and feeling dejected is walk outside your room and take a long walk to clear your mind. Do not stay in your room and just feel sad and under the world.  It’s erroneous to think that playing video games or watching the TV can be of any help. The solution [indeed] is to be outdoors. When upset, engaging in outdoor physical activity (such as walking) will help you reduce the built up stress hormones and ultimately make you happy again. Moreover, when you are out jogging or just strolling in your neighbourhood, you are most likely to come across something pleasant to uplift you. Make sure to take along your phone and earpiece with some pleasant, calming music playing.

RELAX YOURSELF: When you are all worked up and stressed out, another important thing to do is to try and deliberately calm yourself down. I personally do this a lot, even telling myself [in my mind’s mind] to calm down, calm down and calm down some more. Trust me, it works wonders!  So always ensure to relax and spend time away from the things that must be frustrating you. And as mentioned earlier, walking, jogging, listening to music or singing/dancing are important ways of engaging yourself positively.

EAT AND REST: As you may well know, it is most likely for someone to become easily irritable and frustrated when hungry. So do not be surprised that what is causing your stress and angst has some hunger connections!  For this reason, you should endeavour to fill your stomach whenever you are frustrated. But mind you, I do no mean “fill” like “FILL IT ALL UP.” In other words, do not form the bad eating habit known as comfort eating. Instead, eat healthy snacks such as fruits after which you must rest; sleep. By the time you wake up, you’d be refreshed.

AVOID ARGUMENT: The last thing you want to do is to argue or engage in any form of altercation with anybody when you are upset. Instead of helping your situation, you’d only find yourself a lot more frustrated than you were. Therefore, if at all you should even be talking to someone during your moment of frustration, let whatever you are talking about be pleasant. This is a must.

In any case, be safe people.
