Meaning of National Health Insurance Scheme
National Health insurance Scheme is a contributory health insurance scheme meant for providing medical attention to the contributors which include individual, an employee, the employer and the government
The contribution of the individual stakeholder form is the premium which is managed by the health insurance managers from which medical services are provided to the individuals concerned without direct payment by such individual.
Objectives of National Health Insurance Scheme
- To make health care services to be universal in all health care institutions across the country
- To make health care services affordable to the people
- To make health care delivery services more efficient
- To give every citizen an opportunity to benefit from the pool of contributions into the health fund by giving equal opportunity for medical treatment
Those who can benefit from the NHIS
The following are those who can benefit from National Health Insurance Scheme are
- All individuals in the society whether employed or not
- All unemployed members of the society
- An employee who has made contribution into the scheme
- The wife or husband and four of the children of the employee who must not be above 18 years
