Topic: Free and Fair Election
Free and fair election is an election conducted according to the principles and rules of democracy. This simply means that the people of a given country must be free without force to elect their leaders under a condition that is most favourable and conducive.
Conditions Necessary for the Conduct of a Free and Fair Election
- Only qualified citizens should be registered to vote.
- Voting should be done secretly.
- Voters should not be intimidated at the polls.
- Impartiality of electoral officers.
- Votes must be counted under strict supervision.
- Candidates must be given opportunity to campaign and sell their manifestoes.
- An aggrieved candidate should have access to court.
- Revision of voters register is necessary before the conduct of elections.
