The Group Managing Director of Cool FM, Mr. Amin Moussalli, has urged Nigerian tertiary institutions to expose their students to practical aspects of their chosen courses.
Moussalli said such initiative would not only make the students have deeper understanding of their disciplines, it would also prepare them to make useful impact if they decided to pursue it as a profession.
The media boss spoke during the presentation of Seun Adebajo and Nneka Chile, the winners of a script writing competition in Lagos, a statement said on Thursday.
He said, “Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions must, as a matter of urgency, start to cultivate the habit of exposing their student to the practical aspect of their course of study.
“Such initiative will widen their horizons and enable them have prerequisite knowledge on their fields of study. I also hope that script writing will be added to the tertiary school curriculum.”
Moussalli said the duo would be sponsored by the station to be part of this year’s Notre Dame University International Film Festival holding between November 10-17 in Beirut, Lebanon. He added that the festival would further expose the students.
He explained that Adebajo,20, is a 400 level Accounting student of Babcock University, while Chile, 19, is a 300 level student of Creative Arts, at the University of Lagos.
Moussalli said, “This is the second time we will be doing this. Last year’s winner, Damilola Kulajolu of Bowen University, was also sent to the festival.”
He added that the organisation would sponsor no fewer than four students to next year’s edition, while also initiating a follow up scheme on the beneficiaries to ensure they utilise the experience.
Adebajo told our correspondent that his passion to write led him to enter for the competition.
Chile said her story was inspired by her environment, adding the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities strike gave her the needed space to write.
