Facebook will now require all users of its mobile application to install another app for chatting with their friends.
It is officially confirmed that Facebook will disable messaging in its main apps for iPhone and Android and demand users to download another app – Facebook Messenger. This was announced by Facebook representatives to Huffingtonpost yesterday.
According to Facebook spokesperson, “We are starting to notify people this week and will be rolling this out on Android and [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][Apple’s] iOS to a handful of countries over the next couple of weeks.” This week some of European users were notified that they will no longer be able to chat via main app.
As the Facebook claims, this will help users get their messages 20% faster via a separate app.
The app Messenger was introduced in November and is already in top ranks of free iOS and Android apps.
According to Huffingtonpost, Facebook does this to win in the competitive market of chatting apps, as it knows that most of your friends are already on Facebook and it will be easy for them to go to Facebook Messenger.
