First images of Nokia’s Android design emerge (Photos)

The images, published by @evleaks, show an interface that looks much more like Windows Phone than previous leaks.

Earlier rumours had suggested that Nokia’s custom version of Android would bear more than a passing resemblance to Microsoft’s rival Windows Phone software.

The future of Nokia’s Normandy project has been up in the air since Microsoft bought the company.

However, these latest images suggest that Microsoft may be on board, due to likeness of the software’s design to its own Metro styling.

The tiles are almost identical to those found on Windows Phone 8.

Previous reports had suggested that Normandy was intended to replace its Asha line up of smartphones.

The thinking behind designing Android more like Windows Phone – according to the reports – was to provide a way of easing in those upgrading from feature phones into the Windows Phone environment while benefiting from the low cost and hardware requirements of Android.

It is currently unclear if Nokia and Microsoft will provide their own store front or hook into the Google Play store.
