These two homonyms have different meanings.

ASSENT

The noun assent means agreement.

Examples: Your assent is required before we can go on with the procedures.

As a verb, assent means to agree or to concur .

Examples: Unless you agree, we will not follow her path.

Unless you assent, we will not follow her path .

ASCENT

Ascent is derived from the verb ascend, which means to move forward, climb something or move to a higher level. Ascent is the noun version of ascend

Examples : His ascent is really getting to his head (his elevation to a higher level)

After his ascent to the top of the mountain, he dropped a rope for us to ascend.
