These two terms are often confused with each other, but they mean different things.

The difference between efficiency and effectiveness is that efficiency refers to how well you do something, whereas effectiveness refers to how useful what you’ve done is – regardless of how you did it.
For example, if Jane is not getting good grades at school and she decides to be more serious with her studies. She then devotes extra time for studying, gets enrolled in evening lessons and stopped socialising with too many friends… But she still doesn’t get good grades. In this case, one could conclude that Jane’s strategy is efficient but not effective.
