President Goodluck Jonathan has declared to the United Nations that Nigeria is now free of Ebola.
Jonathan gave this assurance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, while commenting on the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus disease (EVD) in West Africa. He however called on the global community to act collectively in ensuring that the disease does not become a global disaster.
“While Nigeria was able to respond effectively to control the spread of the disease, the situation in Liberia and Sierra Leone requires sustainable, collective global action to contain,” said Jonathan.
The president noted that Nigeria was able to contain the EVD through the concerted efforts of its healthcare professionals, the World Health Organisation and the country’s international partners.
