#PNN E-Mentoring (Taiwo Akinlami): Personal Safety/Self Protection For Teenagers – Guidelines To Responses (11)

Dear friends, sure you are doing great today. My weekend was highly fulfilling and rewarding. We thank God for His mercies and grace to be here today leading this discussion.

Last week we discussed the definition of domestic accidents. Today, I will share with you tips on how to prevent domestic violence as follows:

Pay attention to electrical connections: I charge you to pay attention to electrical connections in the house. Watch out for naked wires. I also charge you not to play the role of an electrician when there are electrical faults at home. Make it a point of duty to call the attention of your parents or caregivers so that they could call experts in to fix same. Children have been electrocuted while playing with naked wires or while trying to fix electrical problems, in most cases without the knowledge of the parents.

Avoid food poisoning: please check food very well before you eat particularly canned food. Recently I bought a particular food product from one of the biggest supermarkets in my area. I have patronised this supermarket for years and trusted their products. I bought this food product this time and did not bother to check the expiry date. I ended eating same. I only saw that the product has expired after I had consumed it. Thank God I did not suffer any health problem as a result of my lack of caution. Please always check the expiry date of items before you eat them. I charge you not to eat food, which source you do not know. If you are going to drink any liquid check it very well to make sure that it is the liquid you intended drinking that you end up drinking. People have mistakenly drunk poisonous liquid in the past.

Beware of ‘rough’ play within the house: Please do not play roughly in the house. Do not run around in the house. I do not think it is right to run around in the house, play football or do other physically engaging plays.  Please accept this fact that your house is not a playground. Playgrounds are designed with your safety in mind. Therefore everything, which could cause you pain or injure you have been removed. How do you play within the house then? Simple, engage in plays, which do not require physical engagement but brain engagement. Consider scrabble, monopoly and others to keep yourself busy at home. Do not also play football on a busy road in your neigbourhood.

We still have two more tips to go but we have stop here to respect space. I will be here again next week. Stay Smart! Do have an INSPIRED week.
