An American teacher Haeli Wey will have her day in court after she was charged with felony (that is, a serious crime) for having inappropriate intimate relationships with teenage boys – one of whom was her student. This happened on a trip to Africa with the family of the said student – a 17-year-old boy.
She was arrested after the boy spoke with the police. Also, under Texas law (which was where she taught and still lives), it is illegal for teachers to have sex with students, even if they are at least 17 years old, the state’s legal age of consent.
The victim told the police he met Haeli Wey at a “student ministry program” in June, and that later in the summer she accompanied his family on a trip to Africa. He said that while in Africa, his relationship with Ms. Wey become more personal and on a deeper level, and that it became physical.
He went further to say that he had sex with Haeli Wey more than 10 times after the trip, but stopped the relationship after he heard a rumour that she went on a hike with the second alleged victim. He later told his parents about the relationship, who then contacted authorities.
There were a lot of rumours at school about Wey and the second victim “hooking up”, which were blown into the open by alleged Instagram messages between the two, reports a detective. The second victim would later confess that Haeli Wey invited him on a hike, which lasted about two hours, before they allegedly went to a secluded area and had sexual contact.
When asked if he expected to have sex on the hike, he was alleged to have said
Yes, a teacher just doesn’t hang out with a student to hang out
The randy teacher at one point also tried to conceal the affairs by instructing the second victim on how to erase their conversations.
Delete our convo (sic) from Instagram please and don’t let anyone get a hold of ur (sic) phone
she wrote, and to the first victim, she asked:
What did you tell them? And, Why did you tell them?
Though she has been released on bail following her arrest on December 17, she is scheduled to appear in court on January 7.
