Today, letter writing is almost obsolete; sadly. The very many available digital means of communication have replaced the need for writing letters as people would rather chat with their friends via Facebook/BBM or send work-related communications via email. And let’s be clear about this- the potentials of Digital Communication are too important to be disregarded. The fact that it is instant and fun makes it all very interesting. Yet, inasmuch as the digital means of communication is convenient especially for today’s teenagers, humanity cannot afford to allow the art of letter writing to completely become a thing of the past. Now there are many reasons for this perspective as you shall find below-
There is some kind of uniqueness to letter writing which no other means of communication can replace. This clearly can explain why many people still write letters today in spite of the several alternatives that are available. Indeed, Social Media, instant messaging apps and emails cannot effectively replace the sentiments letter writing affords people. And for this very reason it should continue to be a relevant means of communication.
Letter writing is also important for the basic fact that it actually encourages people to write. Not long ago, I happened to stumble on an avalanche of correspondence between a two relatives of mine. And with the right permission to read through each letter, I was amazed at how said letters spanned several years of communication between two relatives. But most importantly, I saw the depth of writing and then it made me wonder whether most teenagers [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][today] are scared to write just because they found themselves born in this digital age. Everyone can at least agree with me that all the instant messaging apps and even emails do not exactly encourage writing. Instead, it makes people lazy, as they would prefer to abbreviate their texts than write normally. This cannot keep happening.
Moving on, letter writing makes room for personal privacy. With so many hackers available online and even the Government’s ability to easily access people’s data, letter writing seems to provide the surest way to ensure privacy of information shared and received. This should encourage everyone to endeavour to write more inasmuch as they text every day.
Sincerely speaking, letter writing is too precious to be allowed to become a thing of the past. We cannot allow this to continue. Teenagers must be encouraged to embrace the art of writing letters among themselves to their loved ones. Form Pen Pals, write love letters and don’t just let it be all about Whatsapp and it likes. Indeed, humanity cannot allow letter writing to be forgotten. We cannot afford to lose that very important aspect of our history.
