In an effort to discontinue the shameful declining standard of education in Nigeria through quality policy formation and implementation, Stakeholders in Education gathered at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos, on Thursday to discuss the way forward.
The programme, organised by the Volunteer Corps, a non- governmental organisation with focus on education, health, environment and volunteerism, had in attendance important personalities which included; Prof Yemisi Obilade, Dr Keziah Awosika, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, Mr Tonye Cole and Ms Toyosi Akerele amongst others.
The Executive Director of Volunteer Corps, Mrs. Adeola Awogbemi, had earlier stressed the need for policy makers and stakeholders to meaningfully engage each other in a discourse that would yield progressive result.
Participants expressed their regrets on how Secondary Schools in Nigeria have degenerated to a mere gathering place where teachers and students go to pass time in the name of attending school. They also pointed out how Government, Teachers and Parents have failed the upcoming generation, noting that education overly goes beyond what students are being taught in schools.
In their remarks, parents were charged to give adequate attention to their wards both at home and school.
They also admonished teachers to always put in their best in imparting knowledge to the students, and strive to the syllabus at appropriate times.
And private organisations were further encouraged to invest more in Education, noting that a lot goes into entertainment while Education is usually being neglected.
