Students of Loyola Jesuit College to Represent Nigeria in Gabon

Students of Loyola Jesuit College Abuja, have emerged overall winner of the 2015 Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) Company of the Year (COY) competition. The students won the competition through a variety of hands-on activities, where they showed their dexterity by demonstrating a keen understanding of their roles in the global economy. For emerging national champion, the school will represent Nigeria at the African finals in Gabon next month.

Executive Director of JAN, Efua Edeh, while speaking at the competition described Company of the Year (COY) as one of the organisation’s initiatives which deals with the theoretical aspect of its programme, targeted at exposing students to the basic elements of starting a business, and is designed to build young, conscientious business leaders that would become financially independent. The training also helps students  develop the characteristic of entrepreneurs, including the ability to take risk while in business.

According to her:

The programme teaches the students how to map out business plans, conduct feasibility studies, know the product for the right people and give back to the society through corporate social responsibility (CSR).

We train the students to be ethical in doing their businesses and to have competitive advantage over rivalry companies that are into the production of similar products. We make them understand that with competitive advantage, one would create a niche for him/her self
