TALK, TECH AND TEAMS: PASSNOWNOW.COM RECOUNTS HOW UNION BANK IS LEADING THE CONVERSATION ON SMART LEARNING WITH edu360.

Union Bank in her commitment to promoting education and upholding her belief in the strategic importance of quality education to Nigeria’s development launched her maiden edition of EDU360 in a two-day event which was held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria on the 23rd and 24th of October 2018. Passnownow.com was adequately represented by Izuka Ifeanyi and Paul Ehigie who both participated in all the sessions while also leveraging the multiple opportunities available to engage participants and stakeholders on the valuable offerings of Nigeria’s No. 1 eLearning portal.

EDU360 was conceived as a platform to foster conversations, collaborations and partnerships among stakeholders within the education sector with the end goal of seeking sustainable solutions to the challenges in Nigeria’s education space.

On the first day being Tuesday 23rd October, 2018, the Opening ceremony kicked off with the National Anthem followed by the welcome address by the CEO of Union Bank, Emeka Emuwa who passionately and brilliantly restated Union Bank’s commitment towards achieving the 4th Sustainable Development Goal; Quality Education and the importance of quality education towards the development of Nigeria.

The Keynote Speech was presented by Dr.Modupe Adefeso-Olateju, the CEO of The Education Partnership Centre who spoke on the importance of investing in the future of Education with a strong focus on the health sector.

She shared her experiences and thoughts about the importance of quality education with emphasis on the health sector given the exorbitant amounts ($1.3 billion dollars in 2014) spent on Medical Tourism abroad by Nigerians.

Adekunle Sonola, an Executive Director of Union Bank in his address on financing a 21st Century School in Nigeria, highlighted finance as a pivotal intervention through the collaboration of public and private sectors in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice Chancellor of University of Lagoswho represented Mallam Adamu, The Honourable Minister of Education called for the sustained support of Government at all levels for the revamping of Nigeria’s education sector while also commending Union Bank for its role as an enabler in driving global competitiveness by drawing attention to Policy issues through an initiative like edu360.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemohwas also present to enlighten the already the excited audience about the various interventionist approaches of the State in Education such as Code Lagos, Ready Set Work and more.

There were also exhibitions and training sessions for Kids and Teensholding concurrently on subject matters such as Exploring Financing Options for your School’s Growth Strategy with Anthony Asonye, Eric Idiahi, FolasadeAdefisayo as panellists, Raising Well Balanced Children: Preparing our child for Adulthood presented by Dr.Yewande Oshodi, I have a child with special needs, how can schools help?

Preparing kids for the future, with Lola Cardoso, Chief Digital and innovation officer at Union Bank, Jadesola Adedeji, Founder, STEM METS, Moses Imayi, Project Director of Skool Media, Ngozi Akinyele as panellists, Is your child a star? Balancing talent and learning with Mary Agbu, Founder, Pathway College, Enefiok Udo-Obong, Nigerian Athlete, Gold Medalist, Kemi Akinkugbe, Founder, Little Giants Gymnastics Club, Keke Hammond as panellists, Reflecting and planning for lessons, Pastoral care in action, Engaging students in Learning where the trainings for teachers.

The Kids were super enthralled by the array of games, the money matters session with Union Bank, Grow with Google, Little Engineers, School Store Robotics, Personal Development, Self Esteem, Recyclemania-Upcycling Challenge and other empowering discussions that featured in the Program.

On Day 2, wednesday 24th October, 2018 the event continued with exhibitions, teacher training sessions, workshops and kids’ sessions. The issues discussed included – Alternative Education: Digital Tools for Learning with Joseph Agunbiade, Tobi Obasa, FolaweOmikunle, Judith Okonkwo as panellists, Financing Options for Parents:

Life’s Tough Enough: Stop raising Entitled Children with AnwuliFemi-Pearse, Denise Ejoh, FolasadeAdefisayo, Yetty Williams as Panelists. Workshops on Mental Health: Depression and Emotional Problems in Teenagers and Young Adults by Dr. Raphael Ogbolu, coding, Digital Dream Jobs, Personal Development: Self Esteem by Lala Akindoju, School Store Robotics.

The event came to a close with a concert headlined by Koredo Bello. edu360 was an amazing 2 days of networking and collaboration between private and public-sector stakeholders; engagement between administrators and students; teacher training and innovation; and exploration of investment opportunities for potential investors and owners.

Passnownow.com hopes that more Private Companies and Multinationals will emulate Union Bank and continue to stimulate debates around tech innovation in education and rally greater support for the key actors who are already making a difference in the space knowing that the future of education is mobile and unrestricted to physical spaces/infrastructure and new technologies such as Artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things will play facilitative roles in ensuring that Nigerian Children stand side by side their peers in other countries who are already embracing and applying EdTech in various aspects of academic and social learning.
