Uncountable numbers of erudite, professionals and philosophers have argued that parental styles of most families nowadays are indifferent, indulgent, neglective and authoritarian; and that these have been associated with student’s social and academic incompetence on campus. most parents are said to be pre-occupied with their jobs so much that there is little or no time to check their children’s social and academic status and kinds of activities they engage in during leisure, which they claim is a key factor responsible for the alarming and astronomical rate of academic decadence and futility, among children or students in higher institutions. Yet ironically, it is also a fact that many students apply effectively all the steps necessary to achieve academic excellence but still remained underdogs in their academic pursuits.
As a living example, I tell you the panacea to such situation is simple and within reach through highly challenging. The solution is what you have on several occasion heard, but concurrently ignored. You have simply failed to take into consideration what I earlier called” GODs one instruction.
GODs one instruction as stipulated in his holy book say” seek ye first the kingdom of GOD and every other things shall be added unto you”.
Another version of the bible substituted the underline word “added” with “given”. No wonder students who akin to GODs one instruction on campus are usually tagged “GOD’s geometry” due to their geometrically configured pattern of movement on campus that is, from hostel or fellowship centers to school or library and back to hostel or fellowship. They chose not to roam on those ground of immorality like club houses, beer parlors… like I did as a fresher and sophomore, nor have more time for un-gainful social escapades. I was fortunate and privilege to identify with these groups in my final year. I became a born-again Christian and began a new life rooted in Christ Jesus. I surrendered my entire life unto him.
He became the pilot controlling the affairs of my life. That was the beginning of a story better shared than imagined.
My entire lifestyle suddenly changed for good and my G.P.A began to jerk up. It became glaring and obvious to me that my problem had been evil companions who disguised or camouflaged themselves as my friends. No wonder they say “bad eggs corrupt good manners” and ” if you show me your friends, I will tell you what you will achieve”. GOD is the only one who can place you above all your challenges, be it physical or spiritual.
I became a fright to the members of the secret society whom I run from initially. No wonder the bible says that the name of the lord is like a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are saved. Though I spent four years studying at Ajanlekoko University, I only enjoyed and had the best of time and achievement within my last two semesters of strictly obeying “GODs one instruction,”
In July, 2002, I finally and miraculously graduated with a second class lower division in Microbiology. my advice to all prospective students, fresher and stalites of various institutions in Nigeria is that in as much as you face your studies which is your primary assignment on campus, you must also learn how to resist vehemently with all intellectual mechanism within your reach, all forms of encroachment on GODs one factor as stipulated and enriched in the bible which states “Resist the devil and he will flee from you”. 1
To GOD alone be all the Glory.
