Teens! Here are two simple ways to quickly adjust to new environments

Sometimes due to the requirements of parents’ work and other reasons, teenagers are required to move to entirely new places. These moves can be totally difficult for teens to get used to; awkward even for the most outwardly ones. This is because moving requires you to first get used to the new place, make friends in the new neighbourhood, get enrolled at a new school and get to make new friends in the new school. All of these can be strenuous but then you have to do it. For every teenager who has ever had to relocate to a new place, what I am talking about will make so much sense. But even if you have never had to relocate, you still need to pay close attention because you never could tell…tomorrow you might be moving to Abuja or Calabar.

Mind you, there are a whole of ways you can adjust to your new environment. However, I have chosen to focus on just two of such ways because I believe they sum up the rest. Do find below-

LOOK FOR YOUR INTERESTS IN YOUR NEW AREA

No matter what you’re interested in, chances are there so many people interested in the same thing in your new location. Therefore, look out for those things that interest you because in the meantime, those are the things that will keep you interested in your new locality in the meantime.

BE FRIENDLY TO EVERYONE BOTH IN YOUR STREET AND AT YOUR NEW SCHOOL

When you’re a teen in a new school, you must ensure to talk to as many people as possible. Don’t be a wallflower for the first week! Get used to approaching people and introducing yourself. Three things are likely to happen when you get to your new school and decide to be all by yourself- either you are instantly befriended by all, simply ignored by the rest or you are labeled a weirder. And believe me the first scenario is almost impossible. People will either ignore or call you weird. And when they call you weird, the name calling soon comes with more verbal and even physical bullying. You don’t want any of that. Therefore, make effort to make new friends even though it might be difficult at first.

Don’t ever be alone in your new place. Mingle please!
