Nigerian candidates with aspirations of studying abroad were shocked last week when they received notice that their Graduate Record Examination (GRE) had been postponed. No new date was given.
Now the administrators of that examination, as well as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exams have released an official statement saying that due to security concerns, testing in the country has been postponed indefinitely.
The announcement would come as a blow to prospective students as most foreign universities demand that they sit for one or both of these exams as prerequisite for gaining admission.
Below is the official statement announcing the development:
Due to security concerns in Nigeria, GRE® and TOEFL® testing in the country has been suspended for an indefinite period. Candidates who have appointments to take the TOEFL or GRE Tests will be contacted by ETS to process a refund.
