The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has on Thursday, deferred the award of an honourary doctorate degree earlier approved for Lamido Sanusi, the dethroned Emir of Kano.
Professor Charles Esimone, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, made the annnoucement during the 14th convocation ceremonies of the University.
Professor Esimone said the deferment was due to prevailing circumstances.
“The award will be conferred on the former Emir in our future convocation ceremonies.” he said.
“The Senate of the University duly approved the award to former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.”
Sanusi was to be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in risk management.
The Kano State Executive under the Chairmanship of Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje unanimously approved the dethronement of the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi on Monday.
