WAEC News: Schools indicted for engaging in Exam Malpractices during the 2016 May/June

According to breaking news, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has indicted about one hundred and twenty one schools in Kano State for engaging in examination malpractices during last year’s May/June WAEC exam season. Acknowledging the indictment, Alhaji Garba Gombe who is the Director of the Kano Educational Resources Department, said that the problem needs to be addressed immediately. The KERD Director also noted that the information released by WAEC and other recent statistics show that examination malpractice in the state is abnormally high.

He was said to have made these disclosure during a consultative meeting with WAEC officials, principals and proprietors of  schools in Kano. He called on all stakeholders in the Kano State education sector to make a concerted effort towards addressing the identified problem. Meanwhile, about ninety seven schools in the state have so far received warning letters from WAEC, even as twenty four were de-recognised as examination centres by the foremost examination body in Nigeria.

Other information emerging from the meeting include WAEC’s plan to release WAEC certificates annually. WAEC’s Branch Controller in Kano- Mr. Zubairu Ayodele, while also noting that henceforth, WAEC results will be released no later than sixty days after conducting exam. Mr. Ayodele noted that the latest innovations and procedures by WAEC are intended to safeguard WAEC’s credibility as the foremost examination body in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
