Ways to improve your teaching ability as a teacher
Teachers are some of the hardest-working people in our society. They put in hours upon hours and overtime each week, and they take on jobs that most people couldn’t handle for a day, let alone a lifetime. Because teachers deal with so much, it’s important that they stay motivated, especially since they often don’t get the recognition they deserve.
Here are five ways to help teachers improve their teaching abilities:
Always have a plan for the day’s lesson.
A lesson plan is your best friend when it comes to teaching. Having one ensures that you are fully prepared for the entire class period. It also helps you stay on track and not get off-topic.

Make sure your students understand what they’re learning!
This might seem obvious, but sometimes teachers forget how important it is to make sure their students understand what they are teaching them. Understanding is the key to knowledge! Students will retain more information and learn better if they know what they’re being taught before they leave class each day.
Use technology in your classroom!
Technology has become an integral part of education today and there are many ways teachers can use it effectively in their classrooms. Some examples include using interactive whiteboards (IWBs), tablet computers, or even just laptops during lessons or presentations. You might also consider having students submit assignments electronically via email (if possible).
Go back to school yourself.
Enrol in webinars, classes, and workshops to learn new techniques and skills that can elevate your teaching practice. You will also learn about the latest trends in education and how other teachers are organizing their classrooms.
Use games and interactive activities in your lessons
Games are a great way to get kids involved with learning while having fun! It’s important not to rely too heavily on these methods though they’re just one tool among many others that can help students retain information better than if they were just sitting quietly at their desks listening to lectures all day long.
Create a safe environment for students to learn.
Students need an environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment or bullying by peers or teachers alike (and this includes cyber bullying). Make sure there is someone available who knows how best to handle those situations when they arise so that everyone feels safe
Regularly and thoroughly review old lesson plans and get rid of what’s not working for you.
One of our favourite ways to do this is to take a walk after class each day and think about what went well and what didn’t, making notes in a notebook as you go. Then, at the end of each week, sit down with your notes and write down all the things that keep coming up what’s working over and over again, and what’s not.
You can even jot down ideas for how to fix the things that aren’t working, so you don’t forget them when you’re ready to implement new strategies!
Invite your students to offer feedback on their educational experience.
We know some teachers feel like they’re giving up control by letting students provide input, but we promise this method can be empowering! Just remember that if a student makes a suggestion you aren’t comfortable implementing (like assigning less homework), they are still required to complete the work assigned.
Taking suggestions doesn’t mean having to implement everything suggested it just means considering the ideas and making choices that are beneficial both to you as a teacher and your students as learners.
As teachers, it’s always important to look for ways to improve the efficacy of our teaching methods. There are many different strategies and methodologies that teachers can employ in the classroom, whether for individual students or the class as a whole. I hope that these suggestions are helpful to you.
