Why children need an hour of exercise every day

A study shows those under the age of ten need at least that much exercise (an hour) every day to keep hearts healthy. Researchers found that very young children show signs of future health problems. Some of the ill-health problems they could face in the future includes; blood pressure, high cholesterol, poor fitness levels and layers of fat.

The research carried out concludes that children aged between seven and nine should include 20 minutes of vigorous exercise such as running or football.

As good as it sounds, many children are likely to struggle to achieve that level of activity. In a recent study at the Newcastle University, the study showed that girls between the ages of eight to ten-years exercised for an average of just 17 minutes a day. Boys did little better, clocking up 24 minutes.
