My Magna Carta is an international creative essay competition for 11-18 years old. The competition was set up by the English-Speaking Union (ESU) and the Royal Holloway in celebration of the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, one of the most important document in the history of democracy.
Young people (teenagers) from across the UK, the English-Speaking Union’s member countries and throughout the Commonwealth (Nigeria inclusive) are invited to create their very own Magna Carta for the 21st century: one document that safeguards and promotes the rights, privileges and liberties of either their own country or the whole world.
The Challenge? Create your own Magna Carta for the 21st Century i.e a document that safeguards and promotes the rights, privileges and liberties of either their own country or the whole world.
Prizes? Finalists will be invited to London to present their Magna Carta to a live audience, and will also have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities and public speaking training. Those invited to London will have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, as well as receiving training from ESU and Royal Holloway public speaking and debating experts. These will take place over the course of 5 days in October 2015. It is compulsory for finalists to attend the training and final performance days, although they may be excused from the days of cultural activities. Financial assistance will be available.
Deadline: Before midnight (GMT) 5 May 2015.
