1. Donkeys don’t like being kept on their own although a single donkey will live quite happily with goats.

2. Donkeys are related to horses and zebras, but they have much longer ears than either one. They’re also usually smaller than horses.

3. The correct collective noun for groups of donkeys is a drove, herd or pace of donkeys. A mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. A hinny is the offspring of a male horse and a female donkey.

4. Despite the obvious similarities between a donkey and a horse, a donkey-horse offspring (mule) will always be infertile, due to a genetic malfunction that occurs when two different species mate.
