The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released results of the November/December 2015 WASSCE, while it has kept mum about the performance data of candidates who scored five credits in subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
The Head of its National Office (Nigeria), Mr Isaac Adenipekun said:
Of the 237,154 candidates that sat the examination; 79,490 candidates, representing 33.51% obtained 6 credits and above. Further, 113,573 candidates – that is 47.88% of the total – obtained 5 credits.
Of the 237,154 candidates who sat the examination, the Council recorded 124,512 male and 112,642 female candidates. Of this number were 37 visually challenged candidates.
235,542 of the candidates – representing 99.32% have their results fully processed and released. 1,612 candidates – representing 0.68% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors; due in part to errors during registration by candidates, or while sitting for the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates have their results.
128,768 candidates’ results are being withheld for further investigation in connection with various cases of examination malpractice. The reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) of the Council for consideration, after which the Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates in due course.
He declined though, to mention the subjects where candidates had credit passes, not indicating whether English Language and Mathematics were included in the data break-down, as he contested that candidates’ performance cannot be evaluated on the sole basis of their scores in the two top subjects.
Candidates have been urged to check their results online at the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org within the next 24 hours.
