There is really no other word for it – it’s just GROSS to fight over text.
The worst thing about text messages is the lack of emotion – you can’t tell exactly what someone is thinking or how they’re feeling just by reading what they’re writing. That makes it much easier to get confused by what someone is really trying to say and that leaves room for some mishaps. Check out these 8 reasons why you’d better off talking it out instead.
1. Your Tone Can Be Misinterpreted
What’s LOL to you can easily seem WTF to another person. To avoid making a stressful fight, make sure you hash things out using something other than your thumbs.
2. Do You Even Know It’s Him/Her on the Other End?
3. No One is Focussed
It irks me to think that while I’m pouring my guts, she could be Googling Davido’s new song. Now that’s doing injustice to myself.
4. Waiting for a Reply is AGONY
The worst: when you’re on pins and needles waiting for your friend to write back and your phone chimes but it’s your brother or mum instead. Torture! In a fight, boys take an especially long time to answer because, let’s face it, they’re not as great at communicating as girls are.
5. He Could Show Everyone
So could you, for that matter, and no one wants to think about his or her private messages being shown around. If you’re prone to saying things you regret, do yourself a favour and avoid having a visual record of it!
6. …Or Just Stop Replying
Guys, especially, don’t have a very high tolerance for angry girls. So there’s a good chance that he’ll get exasperated and just shut down before the issue is resolved. And then—surprise surprise!—you will want to pull your hair out. And his too.
7. You Don’t Want a Record of Your Fight
If you have your fight with someone documented, chances are that you’ll relive it all over again every time you reread those insanely awful messages. And that’s a bad thing to do to yourself.
8. The Fight Will Last a Lot Longer
Remember that whole “waiting for a reply sucks” part? Well it’s not just the anxiety that makes it so awful, it’s also because it draws out your spat even longer. What could have been a five minute convo is suddenly a 45 minute text exchange. Why suffer longer than you have to?
