5 Beauty and Health Myths You’ve Always Believed That Actually Aren’t True

When it comes to beauty and health, surely there is a whole lot of information flying around. Want to know what’s real and what’s fake? Here are 5 beauty and health myths everyone believes that actually aren’t true.

Shaving Makes Your Hair Grow Back Faster

When you shave, you’re getting rid of the dead part of your hair, not the living part – so it doesn’t affect how it grows. The reason people believe this myth is probably because when you shave, your hair doesn’t have the fine taper at the ends that unshaven hair has, and that makes it look thicker. The new hair also isn’t as light, making it look darker.

You Can’t Use Lotion If You Have Oily Skin

Nope, not true. As contradictory as it may sound, moisturising oily skin is actually good for it. When your skin is dry, it will produce extra oil, making you oilier. The key is to make sure you’re getting a moisturiser that works for your skin and isn’t too oily.

Toilet Seats Can Give You STDs

This is mostly a myth. Some STD and STI organisms CAN actually survive on toilet seats – but it’s only for a short amount of time, and the organisms would have to get in your urethral or genital tract, which is highly unlikely. If it were common, I promise you we would have a much higher STD problem.

Washing Your Face A Lot Gets Rid Of Acne

This isn’t true. Of course you should wash your face at night before bed to get rid of your makeup, but you shouldn’t be over-washing – It dries out your skin.

Oil Is Bad For Your Face

The right facial oils can actually be amazing for your skin, making it glow, get more hydrated, and even help with breakouts.
