Improve Your Grades in this Exam with these 10 Tips

Are you haunted by the thoughts of your grades in the last promotional exams? Perhaps, you just managed to scale through, and now that exams are around the corner (yet again!), your old fears are back.

It is easy to be down when one thinks of this kind of stuff, but you can’t let poor performance of the past get you down. There is always time to make things better. And there are always reasons to improve. If you have failed a few tests already, you can still turn this term around. Don’t get down on yourself, because it’s not too late!

I will show you exactly how.

1. Gather all your assignments to determine exactly how and why you earned the low grades. Identify your weak points. Did your grades suffer because of careless grammar, because you didn’t understand the question, the topic in question or poor writing habits? If so, be more mindful of grammar, ensure to understand what the question says, brush up on the topic and structure in the exam.

2. Visit the teacher and ask her to go over your assignments with you. Ask her what you could have done differently. But if your teachers are not attentive, you could  speak with another student,or a trusted adult with knowledge in that area.

3. Ask for advice. This will direct you to resources that are topic-specific, and by trying to take charge of your destiny, you are showing responsibility. Most teachers will appreciate this thoughtfulness.

4. Put all your energy into the exam. Find someone – like a tutor – to help you. You may also ask the teacher to explain the format of the test. Will it be an essay exam, multiple-choice (OBJ) or both? Then target your study accordingly.

5. Join a study group. Do this wisely though. Ensure that your joining will help you in your academics, and not just a social gathering where nothing is achieved. Discuss the exam with other students. They may have notes that you missed, or they may have better understanding when it comes to certain topics, test questions and answers

7 Techniques To Help You Make the Best of Study Groups

6. Improve memory skills. There are many techniques to improve your memory. Find one that is best for you and the material you are studying.

7. Get serious. Don’t be late to class. Get some sleep. Turn off the TV (doing this for the duration of the exam wont kill you I promise)

8. Be realistic. If you are stressing out about your grades, you should know that perfect grades aren’t everything, and expecting them isn’t very realistic, either. While it is true that a lot of value is placed on grades, remember that you are human, not a machine and there are other important things in life too.

9. Give yourself credit if you’re doing your absolute best. If you have tried everything, but you just can’t become the perfect student you want to be, perhaps you should give yourself a break. Identify your own strong points and make the best of them. That’s really the best anyone can do – you cannot be another person even if you tried, and you shouldn’t want to!

10. Don’t give yourself a bad reputation. If you are not happy with a grade or a report card, you can discuss this with a teacher. However, if you make a habit out of visiting your teacher to complain, then you may be making a pest of yourself.

Always try to remember that life is more than grades, yes, it is an important part of schooling. But  when compared to life, it is only a small part of  it.
