Arlo is the smallest and weakest of his family members and is relegated to feeding chicken-like birds who scare him . Poppa and Momma want to help Arlo conquer his fears, and encourage him to step out of his comfort zone and make his mark in life.
While his dad was trying to show Arlo how to be brave, he gets washed down the river in a big storm, while Arlo ends up miles from home and stranded, and is not equipped to face the tough and dangerous life of the wilderness.
On his sojourn, he meets his human friend Spot (a name Arlo came up with) – who is a grunting, growling wild boy – and whom Arlo remembers as the one who was always stealing his family’s supply of corn. Though, they start off as enemies, soon they become friends, and would venture on this adventure together.
Arlo remembers his dad always said “follow the river home”, but his wanderings with Spot takes him even farther away as they eat bad fruits along the way for lack of what to eat. They meet other interesting dinosaurs with whom they become friends, with Spot escaping several times from being eaten by an evil flock of ‘bad’ dinosaurs.
But after facing many dangers – including the kind of storm that took Arlo’s father away – the little dinosaur finally faces his fears, saves his friend Spot, and returns home where he has to make some really tough grown-up choices.
It’s certain that you will find the story interesting; the wide open spaces will feed your sense of adventure, and the lesson that everyone is frightened by challenges which we live through by facing our fears will simply melt your heart.
