Broken Your New Year’s Resolutions Already? Here’s What to Do

Last year, as the days of December ticked away, did you break out a new fresh-paged diary as you said to yourself: Which resolution should I choose? And how can I make it finally stick? You eventually went on to write a couple of things you hoped to achieve in the new year – but it’s 7 days in already, and you have already broken a few!
What should you do? Are your resolutions shot for good? Before you go fretting over this little affair, consider these tricks that will help you get your confidence back, and put your abilities back in perspective.
  1. Make a list of the things you have actually achieved this past year
  2. It may include the big things you are really proud of, and what you may consider to be small things. For example: Did you achieve a more extensive vocabulary this past year? Were you a better friend? Did you get over your fear of public speaking, and finally joined the debate team? Did your grades in Math, English or Commerce improve?
  3. Whatever your achievements may be, endeavour to write them down, and you would be surprised as the number of your proud accomplishments grows.

Doing this will end up making you feel empowered and excited for whatever challenges the new year may throw your way. Instead of feeling like a failure for not continuing with the resolutions you made, you would feel confident for all your victories – big and small – from the past year.

So, instead of focusing on your resolutions for the year – and the ones you have broken – focus on the list of all your accomplishments from 2015, and pat yourself on the back for all of the amazing things you have accomplished. It does not mean that you will become complacent, only that you will be less anxious, and under much less pressure.

You will be confident that if you achieved great things in the past year, you will do the same this year based on the fire-power from previous victories.
