We have come up with a list of some of the things you shouldn’t do, and paired them with alternatives instead. Take a look at some of them, and see if you agree.
1. Scraps of Paper Containing Your PINs
Carrying your ATM card’s PIN and a collection of passwords on a scrap of paper in your wallet is a prescription for financial disaster.
Instead: If you have to keep passwords jotted down somewhere, keep them in a secure place at home.
2. Spare Keys To Your House
A lost wallet containing your home address and a spare key is an invitation for burglars to do far more harm. Don’t put your property and family at risk. And even if your home isn’t robbed after losing a spare key, you will likely spend money in locksmith fees to change the locks for peace of mind.
Instead: Keep your spare keys with a trusted relative or friend. If you are ever locked out, it may take a little bit longer to retrieve your backup key, but that’s a relatively minor inconvenience.
3. Your Passport or ID Card
A government-issued photo ID such as a passport, voter’s card, national ID card and other such important documents open up a world of possibilities for an ID thief. Thieves would love to get a hold of this, and could use it for anything— including traveling in your name, opening bank accounts and committing all manner of crime.
Instead: Carry only your driver’s license or other personal ID while travelling within the country. When you are overseas, photocopy your passport and leave the original in a hotel lockbox.
4. Multiple Debit Cards
The more cards you carry, the more you will have to cancel if your wallet is lost or stolen. Instead, carry a single card for your purchases.
These are just some of the things you definitely should not tot about in your wallet. What do you think?
